Following recent inquiries from Canadian businesses and governmental interests, the Niagara Falls New York Water Board reiterating its "sincere and continued" focus on proper regional wastewater management.
In a release, the water board says it's continuing to evaluate current outflow affecting the Niagara River and exploring ways to mitigate related discharge and overflow occurences despite infrastructure limitations that remain in place.
Various upgrades are needed at the American facility that are estimated to cost around $20 million.
The board has developed a phased-in approach to updating the outdated facility.
The NFWB also "disagrees with any implication of ongoing facility or operational mismanagement, and believes such commentary grossly undercuts the serious need for large-scale investment at the outdated wastewater facility—which is an undeniable reality."
The board has been under fire on both sides of the border following a July 29th discharge that turned the water in the lower Niagara River black.
