After 25 years as the "official historian" of Niagara Falls, Sherman Zavitz is stepping down.
Zavitz says it was a great honour to serve as historian, but after a looking at a couple of numbers, including his age, he decided it was time to call it a day.
He tells us the position was vacant for a while, until he was approached by the Lundy's Lane Historical Society over two decades ago.
Zavitz says his interest in the history of Niagara Falls started after he moved to the city from Welland to teach.
The historian also wrote a weekly column for the Niagara Falls Review on local history and a photo feature known as Then and Now.
Zavitz won't speculate who will replace him, saying the decision is ultimately up to city council.
