Niagara Falls City Council set to hold a special meeting on Tuesday to give councillors an update on Ryerson's second application for federal development grant funding.
Mayor Jim Diodati's office confirming last week the second application to FedDev to establish a digital media zone in downtown Niagara Falls has been submitted by Ryerson.
This meeting is open to the public and slated to take place at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall.
Back in February of 2015 Council met in-camera to discuss the city's portion of support for the first application.
The Ontario Ombudsman’s office ruled the city contravened closed-meeting provisions of the Municipal Act when it did that.
A debate at the June 12, 2016 Council meeting centred around whether the city had committed $10 million as part of the first application.
The Mayor and CAO denied there was a financial commitment, however, a support letter signed by the Mayor as part of the application indicated that ``the City of Niagara Falls Council has committed $10 million to the project over a 4 year period as a partner in this initiative, consisting of $8.5 million in financial support and $1.5 million of in-kind contributions.``
