Niagara Falls Tourism's CEO calls the Ford government's decision to exclude some parts of the province from moving into Phase Two of reopening 'massively disappointing.'
Niagara will be among the areas left out on Friday as some places take the next steps in the provincial recovery plan.
Niagara Falls Tourism CEO Janice Thomson says she and other tourism officials were advocating for a province-wide approach to reopening.
"I gave some testimony just on Friday to the provincial Standing Finance Committee and Economic Development and the message there from myself and others from Niagara was really clear: we were asking them to reopen the businesses as quickly and safely as possible."
She says many of her members felt the same.
"95 percent of our members said, 'Yes, we're ready to go! We're ready to reopen!' and 100 percent of them said, 'We have everything in place already to meet the provincial guidelines.' The only ones who weren't able to answer that were the ones who don't have the guidelines for their sector yet."
She does note she defers to public health's advice.
