Niagara Falls Council has deferred making any decision on hosting cannabis stores in its community until it's first meeting in January.
Councillor Wayne Thomson also asking that city staff seek answers from the province in regard to what controls they will have should the city agree to host retail outlets.
Thomson says Niagara Falls Tourism is concerned about the image projected should the city not have the ability to control the number and locations of pot shops.
Council is hoping to get a clear direction from the province - on those issues - before hosting a public debate on the matter at its January 15th meeting.
Municipalities have until January 22nd to decide if they want to opt in or out of hosting retail cannabis stores.
