Niagara Health has been recognized nationally in patient safety for its Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) program.
It's been awared the Excellence in Patient Safety Award
VTE is the formation of blood clots in the vein. It is one of the most common complications of hospitalization and the most common preventable cause of hospital death.
The Niagara Health initiative focused on improving VTE daily risk assessment processes for every admitted patient, and starting preventative treatment if needed.
“The goal of this initiative is to ensure patients with VTE consistently receive safe, reliable, high quality care,” said Debbie Smith, the VTE project lead and Clinical Director, Welland Site. “I am pleased to report that Niagara Health is achieving this goal.”
