In an effort to improve recycling diversion rates, the Niagara Region is considering changes to its waste management program.
Public Works staff is recommending the region move to garbage collection once every two weeks, but maintain weekly recycling and organics collection.
Results of a public consultation found residents were evenly split on how the option of every other week collection would impact their household.
An option that sparked some controversy was the move to clear garbage bags.
Dave Kains from Metroline Research Group who conducted the public survey on the proposed changes says that option sparked the most controversy.
The changes are being considered for the next curbside collection contract which is set to be renewed in 2021.
