Niagara West MP Dean Allison says it's too early to tell if MP Maxime Bernier's blockbuster announcement that he is stepping away from the Tories will impact the PC party.
Aftershocks are still rumbling across the floor of the federal Conservative convention in Halifax after yesterday's news conference.
While some attendees are hoping yesterday's explosive news will not overshadow the first full day of the convention, Allison says he is not shocked by Bernier's announcement at all.
Allison says it was clear he was not happy after losing the leadership and Bernier decided to take his toys and go home.
Allison says at the end of the day, Bernier made it easy for Tory members since they won't have to decide his fate and he stepped away from the party voluntarily.
Bernier did not walk away quietly from the Tories, he blasted Leader Andrew Scheer saying the party is corrupt and doesn't offer anything different than the Trudeau Liberals.
