Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates is asking the province's new Environment Minister to take action after more wastewater and stormwater was discharged by American officials into the lower Niagara River yesterday.
Gates says he received word that as much as 8 million gallons of raw sewage was discharged because the system was at capacity.
New York state alerted western New Yorkers of the possibility of sewage pollution.
The discharge started yesterday around 6:45 in the afternoon and lasted nearly five hours.
Gates want Rod Phillips to reach out to his federal counterpart and counterparts in Niagara Falls, New York and find a way to ensure this never happens again.
He's also asking for ministry staff to come down and inspect the water to ensure lasting damage hasn't been done.
