Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates wants the Premier to "respect the wishes" of local councils and delay the RFP process for a new casino operator.
Gates says the way the process currently works, the focus is on upfront payments to the government and not on economic development, investment, job creation or job protection.
The NDP MPP says Niagara City Council and Niagara Regional Council along with businesses leaders have made it clear that unless the RFP is delayed and altered to include those things, none of the big name casino operators will be submittig a bid.
That will mean fewer people travelling from Toronto and put hundreds of good jobs in Niagara on the chopping block.
He's calling on Kathleen Wynne to delay the RFP so it can be re-written to give more weight to job creation, investment and job protection.
