The St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre is collecting a little warmth to spread around the region.
Starting on Saturday, the museum will be collecting mittens, hats, and scarves to give to families in need through the annual Mitten Tree campaign in support of Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold and the Out of the Cold shelter.
The items are sorely needed throughout the region -- last night the wind chill brought our overnight low to around minus 15.
To celebrate the launch of the campaign, the museum is hosting a full day of activities including a knitting circle and a DIY ugly Christmas sweater craft on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Admission is by donation.
Unwrapped gifts for the City's Tree of Little Angels campaign are also accepted at the museum.
