The Niagara Region's hopes of hosting Amazon's new headquarters have been dashed.
The company has announced the short list of potential cities for the HQ2 - Toronto is the only Canadian city to make the list.
Amazon began accepting bids last year, lauding the new headquarters as a prime opportunity that would bring 50,000 high paying jobs to the host city.
Niagara submitted a bid in October with Regional officials calling Niagara the best positioned area for the company, as it serves as an economic gateway and foreign trade zone point.
Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger told the media the Niagara Region and the city of Burlington were part of the Steel City bid.
In a press release, Holly Sullivan with Amazon Public Policy says, "Thank you to all 238 communities that submitted proposals. Getting from 238 to 20 was very tough – all the proposals showed tremendous enthusiasm and creativity. Through this process we learned about many new communities across North America that we will consider as locations for future infrastructure investment and job creation.”
