Niagara-on-the-Lake councillors are hoping to find ways to bring in more money instead of cutting funding to programs.
The current draft budget for 2018 features a possible 11 percent property tax hike.
When the town treasurer presented the first version of the draft of the operating budget he highlighted slashing expenses for 10 programs to help pare down the increase.
Councillors batted around some ideas to bring the increase into the 2 percent range -- they looked at closing St. David's pool, eliminating the winter decor program, and selling the cemetery.
Staff will now be considering bringing in additional cash through a hotel accommodation tax, increasing parking fees, and increasing rates at town facilities.
