Niagara-On-The-Lake's Fire Chief waded into the waters of Four Mile Creek to save an elderly man last night.
Chief Rob Grimwood tells CKTB News he arrived on scene just before 6:30 p.m. where he was met by the owner of a nearby home who told him there was a man in the creek.
Grimwood strapped on a person floatation device, walked behind the house, and spotted a man in his 70s clinging to a log in the water.
"He was conscious but clearly in distress and in a fair bit of water."
Two trucks had been dispatched, but before they arrived Grimwood entered the water and was able to reach the man while his Deputy controlled the incident from the shore.
Once the man was pulled out of the water paramedics took him to hospital.
"We're not sure exactly how long he had been in the water," Grimwood says. "He was not completely coherent and not able to tell us exactly what happened or how long he had been in there."
