Niagara-on-the-Lake is not a war zone anymore.
That's the word from some local residents who say propane-fired cannons are impacting their way of life.
The battle over bird cannons is brewing in the York Road area at the base of the escarpment between St.David's and Queenston.
Concerned resident Win Laar tells CKTB the two properties in question used to be orchards, but have now converted to vineyards within the last one to three years.
She says the owners are now using cannons to deter birds from eating grapes on the vines.
Laar says the cannons can be heard everyday from sunrise to sunset.
Laar says the farmers have intruded into a long residential area and have made it almost impossible to live in the area.
She says the noise causes anxiety, stress and sleeplessness.
She says because they are so close to the escarpment the noise echoes and amplifies across the neighbourhood.
Laar says they have approached the farmers, with no success.
She has started a petition which has collected 70 signatures so far.
A pre-hearing conference on the issue has been schedule Wednesday May 23rd at 10am at the Virgil Town Office, and a second meeting will be held Wednesday June 6th.
