The school year hasn't even officially started yet, but residents in Niagara-On-The-Lake are already complaining about obnoxious student parties.
During town council residents complained about a rowdy student party on Saturday that they claim drew in approximately 200 people.
In reaction to noise complaints and safety concerns, members of The Glendale Task Force, a group made up of residents, town staff, representatives from Niagara College and the police, are pushing for several recommendations including a long term rental housing bylaw.
A report presented to council by Community and Development Services Director Craig Larmour showed that during an online survey 77% of respondents were in favour of a licensing system for residential rental dwellings. 79% of the survey participants live in the Glendale area.
According to the St. Catharines Standard representatives of landlords and students spoke against the idea, saying a licensing bylaw would increase the price of rent and there has been little consultation with landlords in the area.
Town staff will be looking over the task force's recommendations.
