Four locations in Niagara are part of an international effort to remember the people who died during the First World War.
As part of the project dubbed 'The World Remembers' names of the fallen are scrolling across video screens in Canada, the US, the UK, and Switzerland.
Because so many people were lost in the war, it will take 61 days, with names running for 12 hours a day, just to name them all.
Locally, the project can be viewed at the Matheson Learning Commons and the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts at Brock, and at the Victoria Ave and MacBain branches of the Niagara Falls Public Library.
"The displays become destinations as people make their way to the nearest location to view the names of lost relatives or family friends," Associate Professor of History and Director of the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts Elizabeth Vlossak says via a release. "But the displays also disrupt public spaces, as we witness and remember the more than one million men and women who died in the war."
R. H. Thompson, co-producer of The World Remembers says, "memory is part of what makes us human."
