A well known Niagara businessman has been sentenced to four years behind bars for sexually assaulting a teenaged boy.
The St. Catharines Standard reporting, Jeffrey Cairns was not taken into custody following yesterday's sentencing hearing.
The married, father of two, will remain free on bail pending an appeal of his conviction.
Cairns was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 14 year old boy between March of 2010 and March of 2011.
The businessman is well known in the community having served as a member of Brock University's board of trustees.
A recital hall at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre was named after him after he donated half a million dollars.
After he was charged, his name was removed.
