Niagara Regional Police are looking for witnesses after a 'reckless' driver tried to flee from an officer in Welland.
Just after 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning an officer was stopped behind another vehicle at a red light at the intersection of Niagara Street and Merrit Road.
As the lights changed, a red Pontiac van blew through the red light, barely missing the vehicle in front of the officer before speeding away.
The officer followed the driver of the van to the dead end at Quaker Road where the van made a U turn and drove directly at the police cruiser.
The officer was able to avoid the collision, and was then approached by another driver in the area who had seen the van travelling toward St. Lawrence Drive.
Police caught up with the driver of the van and arrested him after a short foot chase.
The man has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
