Niagara Regional Police have a message for you if you're thinking of heading out on the roads today.
Stay home, stay safe.
A Winter Weather Travel Advisory continues for Niagara and much of the province with high winds expected to continue, possibly causing blowing snow reducing visibility to zero.
Police say weather in the southern end of Niagara and other areas remains at blizzard-like conditions this morning.
"The Niagara Regional Police Service, and our community partners are appealing to the public to stay home and stay safe. Weather conditions in the southern end of the Niagara region remain blizzard like including blowing snow, white out conditions, and at times zero visibility. Some roads are impassable . Venturing out could put you in jeopardy and peril. In some cases, emergency first responders like police fire, and EMS are physically unable to respond to calls. Hazards on the roadways include downed trees, and hydro lines, drifting, snow, flooding and abandoned vehicles. Some residents are without power. If you are at home without power, we encourage you to do everything you can to conserve heat. You may need to call upon or help your neighbour."
A blizzard warning continues today for south Niagara.
The blizzard conditions are expected to ease this evening but through the day wind gusts up to 120 km/h can still be expected with snowfall amounts up to 50 cm, and windchill values near minus 20.
