The Niagara Police Services Board is asking that the OPP and RCMP get involved in the investigation into the Burgoyne Bridge build.
The price tag for the bridge in St.Catharines has almost doubled, with the latest estimate for the bridge replacement sitting at around 100 million dollars.
At a meeting today, the board passed a resolution requesting that the Chief of Police ask the Ontario Provincial Police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, either jointly or individually, to conduct a full investigation into the areas of concern identified by the Deloitte Burgoyne Bridge Replacement Project Forensic Audit.
The board also states that the resolution be publicly circulated to the Region of Niagara, all 12 local area municipalities, all four of Niagara's MPs and MPPs, the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services, the Ontario Civilian Police Commission, the Attorney General of Ontario, and the Premier of Ontario for their consideration and endorsement.
A value-for-money audit was done on the St.Catharines bridge last year.
That's when concerns were raised about missing documentation, poor procurement processes and a lack of transparency.
Construction started on the bridge back in September of 2015.
It links downtown St.Catharines to west St.Catharines over Twelve Mile Creek and the 406.
