Niagara police officers have traded in their old hand-written traffic tickets for a new advanced e-Ticketing system.
The new pilot system started the last week of June and is expected to be faster, reduce human error and save the police and the court sytem time and money.
Over the past 10 years, about 4,300 traffic tickets issued by the NRP have either been rejected or dismissed by the Provincial Offences Court.
Something that has cost Niagara’s municipalities as much as $40,000 a year.
The e-Ticketing technology automatically selects the correct charge and wording and the officer cab print tickets right in his or her cruiser.
The new system automates the process, and all tickets are automatically transmitted from the police cruiser to the court.
Police Chief Jeff McGuire says the new system allows officers to do their jobs more efficiently and effectively.
