Niagara Regional council has hired a fairness advisor to review the way contracts are awarded.
Companies that bid on two contracts, one for the Humberstone landfill in Welland and the other to provide insurance and risk management services to the region, have complained about the procurement process.
In an effort to deal with those complaints, and to review the current process in place, regional councillors last night decided to hire Purchasing Consultants International as their new fairness advisor.
The move will cost taxpayers just over $14,000.
