Niagara This Week reporting this morning that two Region of Niagara directors have been fired.
The paper says director of transportation services, Nick Palomba and director of water and wastewater services, Paul Smeltzer who were suspended last spring have been terminated
When asked about the reason for the firings, Communications associate director Matt Robinson hinted they are connected to the forensic audit into the cost of the Burgoyne Bridge build
Robinson wrote, " As you are aware, the reports and its contents remain a solicitor client priveleged legal document at this time, so we cannot speak to its findings in any way.
The region's Burgoyne Bridge task force met last Thursday to discuss the findings of the audit, but most of the discussion was held behind closed doors.
The region has promised to release the final report to the public.
Council will have a look at the document in March.
The audit was ordered after the cost of the replacement bridge doubled from an original estimate of $52 million to $91 million.
