Niagara Regional Council has voted in favour of installing barriers at a high profile bridge in St. Catharines.
All but four councillors voted for barriers at the Burgoyne Bridge - a site of numerous deaths over recent months.
The councillors who voted against the motion maintain the four million dollars that will be spent on the barriers would be put to better use by funding mental health initiatives.
Niagara's Acting Medical Officer of Health Doctor Mustafa Hirji has repeatedly advocated for the barriers, bringing forward the results of multiple studies showing the numbers of lives saved at similar structures.
