It will be a busy day for the new Niagara Regional Council with a pair of meetings scheduled for today.
During a special meeting this afternoon at 3 p.m., council will receive the first of three reports stemming from a governance review conducted by Western University political science professor Dr. Andrew Sancton.
The report recommends council meet every four weeks and regional councillors who are not mayors be required to sit on two standing committees, while mayors should have the option of sitting on either one or two.
Sancton's report also notes a glut of advisory committees that have not met for more than a year, and recommends abolishing them.

Later on, council will reconvene at 6 p.m. tonight for another meeting, during which they will be appointing members to several boards and committees including the Police Services Board, Audit Committee, and Niagara Regional Housing Board
