A man has been arrested and charged as the Niagara Regional Police continue to target bike thefts in Niagara Falls.
On Monday morning around 11:30 a.m. officers were investigating the ongoing issue of bicycle thefts in the city's tourist area.
Detectives noticed a man riding a high end bicycle in the area of Fallsview Boulevard and Stanley Avenue. They determined the bike had been stolen from a local hotel parking lot and proceeded to arrest 32 year old Michael Raymond Strychar. He is now charged with Theft Under $5,000.
A short time later, the rightful owner of the bike contact the NRP to report the theft.
This is all part of an initiative dubbed 'Project Bike Swipe.' Over the last two weeks detectives have laid 15 criminal charges, arrested 12 people, and seized 23 bicycles as part of an ongoing focus to reduce bicycle theft.
