Niagara's Acting Medical Officer of Health says he would be comfortable with Niagara moving into Stage Two of the province's recovery plan.
Niagara Region Public Health reported no new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Friday and Saturday, and only three new cases yesterday.
Dr. Mustafa Hirji cautions that we shouldn't read too much into the days with zero cases.
"We seem to be averaging on the order of probably two cases, some days we're one or two higher, some days we're one or two lower which gets us to that zero but the overall news here is that we're seeing small numbers of cases."
Hirji adds the small number of cases shows all the protocols we've been following have been working.
"I think we've shown that, we're now almost four weeks out from stage one, tomorrow we'll be four weeks out, and we didn't really see an increase based on that so I think we've shown that we can keep things under control. So I think it's time we take the next step and see how well we do."
He does however add that COVID-19 is not gone, and we need to keep doing things like physically distancing and practicing proper hand hygiene.
