Niagara is remaining in stage one of the reopening of Ontario's economy.
Many areas of the province can move onto stage 2 of reopening stores and businesses, but Niagara, Hamilton, Toronto and some other communities will have to wait longer.
Niagara's Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Mustafa Hirji tells CKTB it is a bit disappointing that our region was left off the 'reopening list' but he understands the thinking since we had a surge in cases following the Pioneer Flower Farm outbreak.
He says the proximity to the border was most likely also a factor.
Hirji says the province did not reach out to Niagara Public Health as they made reopening decisions.
The rest of Ontario will be able to move to stage two this Friday June 12th.
There will be no travel restrictions though, so people can still drive to other areas to visit malls and get their haircut if they choose to do so.
