Niagara's Catholic community is praying for its fellow parishioners in France.
St.Catharines Father Donald Lizzotti, who is the Rector of the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria, says the fire Monday at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is a devastating loss.
He says while many precious items were saved such as the Christ crown and church organ, so much has been lost.
He says the Niagara Catholic community will pray for a successful rebuild of the popular church.
Lizzotti says the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria is also undergoing major renovations.
He says while it's not on the same scale as the popular France renovation, he is ensuring all safety measures are followed as speculation grows that the Paris fire may have been sparked by tools used in the renovation.
The St.Catharines church is almost 175 years old.
