Statement from Regional Chair Alan Caslin on Diversity and Inclusion in Niagara
“Recent social media posts by a Regional Councillor are unacceptable to me as Niagara’s Regional Chair.
Regional Councillors are expected to adhere to a pursuit of excellence by acting in the best interest of the community, in a responsible manner, and to be held accountable for their actions.
Niagara Region’s vision is to be a unified community of communities with diverse opportunities and qualities – and that together we strive for a better tomorrow.
Diversity and inclusion are key parts of this vision. They are important values that make our community stronger.
I have spoken with leaders of Congregation B’nai Israel and Niagara’s Jewish community to share my concerns.
I have spoken to the Councillor about his social media activity and he has removed the tweet in question.
I have reiterated to him the expectations and obligations for elected officials serving on our Regional Council.
