After 30 years with Niagara Health, Dr. Vilijoen is calling it a career.
Dr. Johan Viljoen retired from his position as Chief of Staff and Executive Vice-President of Medical Affairs at Niagara Health.
The retirement date was set for Friday, September 29th, however the news was made public today.
Dr. Viljoen started with Niagara Health back in 1993 as a doctor specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology services.
“As a member of the executive team, Johan contributed to shaping our strategic priorities, led our team of physicians through the pandemic and represented Niagara Health on numerous regional committees. He also served as a vocal champion for Niagara residents and patients,” says Marylee O’Neill, Chair, Niagara Health Board of Directors. “We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to a great leader, colleague and mentor.”
Dr. Satish Chawla, Chief of Laboratory Medicine since 2018, will serve as interim Chief of Staff and Executive Vice-President, Medical Affairs.
The pathologist with Niagara Health since 2005, Dr. Chawla has practiced medicine for more than 30 years.
He served as President of the Niagara Health Medical Association from 2013 to 2016, and is a member of Niagara Health’s Credentialing Committee.
