A little healthy competition is underway as first responders see which group can donate the most blood.

Emergency responders are rolling up their sleeves for a little healthy competition surrounding donating blood.

Sirens for Life has returned, encouraging paramedics, police officers, and firefighters across Canada to donate blood and see which group can collect the most donations.

Niagara EMS paramedic Bryce Brunarski says the paramedics can get a little competitive.

"I hate to say it, but I think I was on last year and I was sure we were going to win, unfortunately we fell short to the fire departments. So this year, paramedics are really ramping up."

The Sirens for Life challenge continues until the end of August.

Canadian Blood Services is requiring all donors to make appointments to ensure physical distancing protocols are followed.
