Niagara's Francophone community is staging a protest at the office of the region's only Conservative MPP.
Over 40 demonstrations are planned across Ontario after the provincial government announced cuts to French language services, including plans for a French language university.
Amid the almost instantaneous backlash, the Ford government backtracked the decision to get rid of the French language commissioner and named Caroline Mulroney as the Minister of Francophone Affairs.
Despite this, all residents of Niagara are invited to take part in a peaceful demonstration at MPP Sam Oosterhoff's office in Beamsville around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 1st.
Officials say the cuts will undermine the survival and development of Ontario’s Francophone community.
The demonstrators will leave the Shoppers Drug Mart at the corner of Serena Drive and Ontario street at 1:20 p.m. and walk to Oosterhoff's office. The demonstration is slated to wrap up at 2:45 p.m.
