Garbage left baking on the curb under a sweltering sun.
Over the past few days, that's the sight that has met Niagara residents as the company tasked with collecting our waste, Emterra, falls behind schedule again.
Although it's easy to see how this could happen amid the scorching heat wave, Acting Associate Director of Collection and Diversion for the Niagara Region Sherri Tait says that's not the only factor.
"Obviously when the temperature hits a certain point they need to give more breaks, but unfortunately they were already behind the 8 Ball in the beginning when they didn't have enough vehicles out on the road and were experiencing those staff shortages."
Residents have been told to leave their garbage and recycling at the curb as the company tries to catch up.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look likely.
"They have about 66 trucks out today, so less than ideal," Tait tells CKTB. "So I think they will struggle a little bit today to get stuff done but I know they're aiming to try and do so. We will have an update later on in the day and will post information on our social media and website."
