Canada's unemployment rate edged up last month even though the Canadian economy saw a healthy bump of 31-thousand-800 jobs.
The latest numbers from Statistics Canada show the rate rose to six per cent from 5.8 per cent in May due to an increase in the number of people who joined the labour force.
More than two thirds of the new jobs were in the part-time sector.
The report also says average hourly wage growth, which is closely watched by the Bank of Canada, remained strong last month at 3.6 -- although it did come down from its nine-year high in May of 3.9 per cent.
In Niagara the jobless rate remained unchanged at 6.3 per cent. Provincially, the rate crept up to 5.9 per cent from 5.7 the month before.
