A strange sight for some as one of Niagara's most controversial outgoing politicians hands over power to one of the province's most respected former Members of Provincial Parliament.
Former Niagara Regional Chair Alan Caslin handed over the regional chains to newly appointed Chair Jim Bradley.
Caslin was the leader of Niagara's most controversial and criticized four-year terms, with his office being accused of helping hire the CAO, and even extending his contract without the knowledge and consent of council.
Voters in Niagara made their voices heard in the October election voting in 23 new council members out of the 31.
One of the Regional Council members voted in was former long-time and trusted St.Catharines MPP Jim Bradley.
Bradley was appointed the region's new Chair Thursday morning in a landslide vote.
He received 19 votes, Welland's Leanna Villella received 7, and Lincoln's Rob Foster got 5 votes.
Tonight marked the first official council meeting for the newly elected members.
Council got right down to work by stepping into the troubled waters of the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority.
The council has selected an interim board of directors to replace the current NPCA Board.
The term will last three months, giving local municipalities the opportunity to pick suitable appointments to the board.
Members of the board from Hamilton and Haldimand are not impacted.
