Niagara's Police Chief is speaking out after his surprise announcement Friday that he will be retiring.
Speaking to CKTB news Chief Jeff McGuire says after a 40 year career it just seemed like the right time.
McGuire says he and the board reached an agreement on how to deal with the three additional years he had negotiated on his original 5 year contract.
He said he's looking forward to spending more time with his family but also hinted that if the right opportunity came along he'd consider it.
McGuire denied his sometimes tumultuous relationship with the board played any role in his decision, saying both sides have a job to do and financial constraints to do it under.
McGuire's last day on the job will be July 14th .
