Niagara's second dedicated COVID-19 assessment centre is opening at the St. Catharines Hospital today at 1 p.m.
"It will have its own entrance and its own examination rooms with its own team all clustered in one corner of the St. Catharines Hospital site on the main floor," Niagara Health Executive Vice President of Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Executive Derek McNally says.
The assessment centre at the Greater Niagara General Hospital tested 15 people in 4 hours when it opened on Tuesday.
"I think that the volumes of calls that are going in to public health...are high. The patients who are actually required to come to an assessment centre to be screened and swabbed are not as high at this point," McNally said following the opening.
Patients must be referred to the centres by Public Health.
Walk-ins are not accepted.
