A Women's Advisory Committee at Niagara Regional Council will go ahead, and men can be part of it.
Pelham Regional Councillor Diana Huson brought forward the idea of the committee, and was surprised that the proposal took a controversial tone when some voiced their opposition to men sitting on the panel.
Huson says the committee should include both women and men, but she understands why some women are concerned.
Huson says she wants to encourage more inclusive conversations about gender equality, and men need to be a part of that conversation.
At the end of the discussion council decided to let men sit on the committee.
She thinks the committee will end up with a few men, but the majority of the panel will be made up of women.
75% of Niagara Regional Council is male.
