Officials with the union representing high school teachers in Niagara say more than 170 teachers could lose their jobs over the next four years.
President of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation District 22 Niagara Shannon Smith cites a report by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives while saying 173 teachers could lose their jobs as a result of larger class sizes.
She says teachers are already seeing an increase in the number of split classes in our district.
She also notes the cuts impact more than just teachers, raising concerns with support staff, social workers, secretaries, and other personnel.
Members of District 22 will be holding an information meeting on November 7, in preparation for strike votes that will be taking place on November 12 & 13.
