A Niagara veterinarian believes Ontario will eventually ban the act of declawing cats.
Doctor Todd Morgan from Morgan Animal Hospital in Niagara Falls tells CKTB's Tim Denis declawing cats can be done in a humane way, but it's something he does very very rarely.
He says while he knows it sounds barbaric there are some cases that the procedure is justified.
He says he doesn't promote it, but he will perform the procedure if the case is warranted.
Morgan says he only does it once or twice a year for families who need it done for various reasons and he would much rather declaw a cat then have a family give the animal away or have it euthanized.
He says they do their best to ensure the cat receives the very best pain medication.
Nova Scotia has banned the procedure all together and petitions are making the rounds calling for Canada to issue a nation-wide ban.
He believes Ontario will eventually ban declawing.
He encourages people to look into other options before making the declaw decision.
