The Niagara Catholic School Board and Niagara Workforce Planning Board presented the Pathways Speaker Summit: Truths revealed, at Club Roma.
This was a chance for youth to hear and ask about academic opportunities and a guide to get there from industry and post-secondary leaders themselves.
But it was more than just youth that attended.
Parents, business owners, teachers and principles gained knowledge to encourage youth to explore their passions, and ignite the flame that leads them on a flexible path following their dreams, and continuing to create a life-long learning journey.
The goal was to inspire, motivate, and get students excited by giving them tools needed to make informed and educated decisions for their future.
Focusing on creating careers from interests as potential careers so students can nurture and be passionate about what they do day in and day out.
During the 'Opportunities and Pathways' panel, professionals discussed popular and local jobs, high demand programs, information sessions, challenges to a successful career path after graduation, and one-on-one support for future success.
Muriel Simpson, Inspector of the Ontario College of Trades, mentioned the importance to keeping an open mind.
"Start somewhere. Take that program. Go to that event. Talk to people in the industry."
A point that was majorly emphasized for youth, to speak to employees in the field, or students in the program they hope to one day be in.
During the 'Let's Talk Industry' portion of the panel, business professionals spoke on the desired skills they see in new hires.
3 major skills were brought forward and that is, communicative, interpersonal, and teamwork ability.
When asked what experience is helpful on a resume, leaders suggested anything to stand out from another.
Whether that be a co-op, job shadow, summer camp, team activities, volunteering, or a part-time job that showcases your strengths.
Students were reminded they have support through information, recourses and avenues such as tonight's.
Presenters hope tonight was a starting point for discussion for families and their children.
