The 2017 Niagara Wheelchair Tennis Open is coming to Welland.
The event will run from June 20, 2017 through to June 22, 2017 and welcome some 40 athletes to compete in a wheelchair tennis championship.
It's estimated that the international event will contribute over $10,000 to the local economy.
The event is being funded by the Ontario government's Sport Hosting Programm, and is designed to help bring major sport events to the province by funding a variety of winter and summer sports and supporting national and international competitions.
St.Catharines MPP Jim Bradley says the opportunity to host the Niagara Wheelchair Tennis Open is a valuable experience for the City of Welland and made possible with support from the Ontario Sport Hosting Program.
He says although the event will run only a few exciting days, it will have long-lasting positive impacts on athletes, visitors, local businesses and all of us in Niagara.
