Niagara is ahead of the game when it comes to compiling information on our homeless population.
While a program aimed at measuring homelessness in Ontario has been put on hold by Premier Doug Ford's government, Niagara says it plans on tracking numbers by using a federal program.
Cathy Cousins, Director of Homelessness Services at the Niagara Region says a count was completed locally in 2016 and then again in 2018.
She says the federal program was able to collect more detailed information.
Cousins says it gives officials an idea of the average age, gender and reason for the person's loss of housing.
She says since they use a federal program another count will take place next year.
