If you are one of the drivers wondering how long the nightly closures of the Thorold Tunnel will continue, we now have a few more details.
The MTO says a full closure of the westbound lanes of the tunnel is scheduled to occur nightly from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. starting on Monday May 14th to Thursday May 17th, 2018.
Officials say work is continuing and has been progressing well, though slowly given the complexities inside the tunnel and the work could take longer than expected.
They say there is variability at all other times, as they only want the lanes to be closed when work is being done to minimize the impact on traffic.
Those closures are shown on the Roadwork Section of the ministry's 511 website.
The Thorold Tunnel was damaged following a truck collision last summer.
Ceiling panels were removed immediately following the initial full closure and a plan is in place to remove additional ceiling panels that are showing extensive cracking and deflection as a result of the incident, which is why there are now two big holes in the ceiling.
In addition, the Thorold Tunnel is also due for a major rehabilitation.
The project is currently being tendered and will be commencing this summer and is anticipated to take three years to completion.
There will be future nightly closures and single lane closures of the tunnel during this construction season for the work under that contract.
