Niagara Regional Police officers will not be facing charges after the Special Investigations Unit looked into a domestic assault arrest.
Near the end of September last year, police were called to a home where a woman had been allegedly assaulted by a former boyfriend who then left the scene on his motorcycle.
Police were unable to locate him, and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
When officers went to his apartment building later in the day, they found him hiding in the bedroom of another resident's unit.
A struggle ensued as the man refused to be handcuffed. At the time, officers noted he was holding 'something black' in his hands - it turned out to be a steak knife.
The man was taken to hospital, where doctors found fractures to two ribs.
The director of the SIU has determined officers used a reasonable amount of force to make the arrest.
