Canada's chief NAFTA negotiator says ``We're not there yet.''
In a news conference at the Canadian embassy in Washington this afternoon, Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland says a ``win-win-win'' deal is still possible.
But she says that while she'd like to see a new agreement that benefits Americans and Mexicans, her top priority has to be how it would affect Canadians.
Freeland points out -- I get paid in Canadian dollars.
Her American counterpart, Robert Lighthizer, says the NAFTA talks in Washington will break for the long weekend and resume on Wednesday.
Lighthizer says President Donald Trump has notified Congress he plans to sign a trade agreement with Mexico -- and Canada, if it's willing -- in 90 days.
Today's talks have been coloured by Trump's blunt assessment of the negotiations.
In a conversation yesterday with Bloomberg News, the president gave a dismissive off-the-record assessment of the Canadian position, vowing any deal would be on his terms.
