Britain and Scotland have taken the lead and are in the midst of plans to ban plastic drinking straws.

G7 nations are attempting to draft a plastics charter ahead of next month's meeting in Quebec in an effort to clean up ocean garbage.

But closer to home some restaurants in Niagara on the Lake have already made the move, removing plastic straws from their establishments.

The Olde Angel Inn became the the first to ban straws a couple of months ago.

Corks Winebar has followed suit and some Vintage Hotels properties have switched to paper straws.

But to accommodate those with disabilities straws are available upon request.
