The president of Indonesian airline, Lion Air, says the plane that crashed into the sea today with 189 people on board had suffered a technical problem on its last flight.
But the airline chief says the issue was resolved.
The Boeing 737 Max plane crashed into the sea 13 minutes after it took off from Jakarta.
Air Transportation officials say the pilot had requested a return to the airport shortly after takeoff.
No word on the fate of those onboard.
